History
My fascination with computers and programming started back in high school. I developed educational software with my father, a teacher, who designed and tested the software in his classroom. Over several years we designed, built and sold over 10 software titles for public schools in Ontario. When computer software started to incorporate multimedia that required teams of people to build it, we decided to close the business and I left for University.
During my time at the University of Guelph I studied computer science and met many great people who helped me develop and hone my skills. While there I helped start the company Button Down Digital with some graduate students. Our goal was to develop websites and push the envelope of web development at the time. We developed web applications for the University of Guelph and Bell Sygma. During that time I learned a great deal about working in a collaborative team and that hard work could bring great results and recognition.
After Button Down Digital I worked at ACC Telenterprises, which has subsequently been sold and bought several times and is now Primus. I worked as an internal web developer and unix programmer where I learned the value of having a well designed web interface for internal administration applications.
For the next few years I worked as a contractor for several companies building web integrated databases, online games and integration of manufacturing control systems with warehouse inventory control. Working as a contractor allowed me to learn about the internal processes of different types of companies, and how best to introduce applications to increase efficiency.
In 2001 I formed Digital Mouse Works and continued to consult under that name, and continued to operate under Digital Mouse Works until 2009 when I closed the company due to full time employment. During this time I helped to design and develop an ISP platform for the 4th largest cable company in Canada, which I continued to maintain and extend for several years. While working with the ISP I worked on many projects involving all aspects of the business from the call center, planning and support, IT and the warehouse.
